As an enthusiastic scrapbooker, I’m often amazed how few single and/or childless scrapbookers I meet. Most scrapbookers are mothers. Certainly it’s a natural. Cute kid photos look great in cute scrapbooks, they’re a record of childhood, and they get handed down as valued family history. Look in any scrapbooking magazine, and I’ll wager that at least 90% of the layouts relate to children. But should that leave out the rest of us? Absolutely not!
I’m single, have no children, and I love to scrapbook. Sure, I have three nephews, a sister and parents, but they’re not my life to nearly the same degree as my own children would be if I had any. That doesn’t mean I have to scrounge around for scrapbooking themes. My life is full and meaningful, and scrapbooking is a wonderful way to tell my stories.
Many scrapbooking products and much literature are directed toward scrapbookers with families. There’s still plenty for the rest of us to work with, and lots of opportunities to be creative. With this blog my intent is to explore topics related to scrapbooking as a single, and to keep the creative juices flowing. I hope to meet other scrapbookers too. Perhaps we’ll start a community.

ReplyDeleteI noticed that one of the new 'Masters' selected by Memory Makers magazine has no children. That is hopeful for ideas for your blog.
